HSE Approved Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
An Appointed Person for the workplace in first aid legislation terms is someone who is responsible for keeping the first aid kit stocked, and for ensuring that an ambulance is called if needed in an emergency situation. An Appointed Person is not expected to give any first aid treatment for which they have not been trained.
The longer HSE Approved First Aid at Work course is delivered over a minimum of 3 days – a big commitment in terms of work time lost for smaller and lower risk businesses. For this reason this one day course covering essential life saving first aid for the workplace has been developed, and as of 01/10/09 is an HSE Approved course in its own right.
This course will leave candidates confident in dealing with an emergency situation whilst awaiting the ambulance and give a basic understanding of the impact of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 upon the workplace.
